Yoga for youth offers kids time and space to learn life-skills that will support them the for rest of their lives. They will learn how to center themselves by paying attention to their breath. Students get to play with movements, poses, and Yoga games encouraging flexibility, strong bodies, and development of coordination. Plus, Yoga provides simple tools that kids can use to help them relax, focus, and stay calm. All of this, in a fun community classroom setting!

Children will have fun with this playful Yoga class as we learn to breathe, move, and flow with and without sound. This class will allow kids to explore sounds and Yoga together. Using singing bowls, kazoos, drums, and bells united with expressive Yoga poses, we will discover the relationship between sounds (including silence) and movements.

After 60 min of Yoga, children will have a brief water and snack break - please send a piece of fruit and a water bottle with them to enjoy.

For the second half of class we will craft our own instruments out of upcycled materials and then play music together in concert. Such fun!

Kids will enjoy an exploratory and imaginative Yoga class as we make-believe we are traveling around the world into dense forests, deep oceans, and wild prairies. Children will enjoy a reverence for the natural world as we posture our bodies modeling animals and plants.

Kids love to practice Yoga like a cat, lion, dog, and fish. They will balance like trees and breathe/rest like a coral reef. After 60 min of Yoga, children will have a brief water and snack break - please send a piece of fruit and a water bottle with them to enjoy.

We will then play group games for the second half of class. These skill-building games encourage listening, trust, playfulness, and creativity (and lots of giggles).

Teens face many of the same stressors as adults do, as well as others unique to adolescence. Yoga was been proven to be a helpful and healthful way for teens to release stress and learn to find balance

  • Students will learn breathing techniques, mindfulness, Yoga postures and relaxation methods

  • All Yoga experience levels are welcome to attend

  • Students ages 12 years and up

By now the physical benefits resulting from a regular yoga practice are well established and accepted. The mental and psychological effects, however, can be somewhat harder to prove. Helping to do just that, Harvard Medical School has released a study, co-led by Jessica Noggle, Ph.D., on the psychological benefits of yoga on teenagers in 11th and 12th grade. Published in the April issue of the Journal of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics, the study concluded that yoga may “serve a preventative role in adolescent mental health” by providing teens with beneficial ways to deal with stress and trauma, instead of falling into the dangerous and destructive behavioral patterns so prevalent in high schools across the country.
